HELP THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLES OF THE AMAZON

The COVID-19 pandemic affects everyone, but the peoples of the forest are currently among the most vulnerable. It is critical that indigenous people have what they need to stay in their villages and avoid contamination with the virus.

For this reason, and with your help, we provide basic food and supply kits to the villages of diverse forest peoples!

WHY DONATE?

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the situation of indigenous peoples, which was already very difficult, has become even worse. Many villages depend on the sale of their products (flour, nuts, coffee, handicrafts, etc.), and this trade has been slowed or, in most cases, completely stopped.

In addition, many indigenous people who receive some type of government assistance, such as social welfare or retirement payments, are not able to access these funds because they now avoid going to the city.

It is important to remember that the immune system of these indigenous people is different from other populations because they have had little exposure/immunity to many diseases. To make matters worse, in most cases, access to health care is more difficult for the people of the forest. These peoples have historically been decimated by western diseases such as measles and flu and are now at risk of genocide.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Kanindé is using its own resources to make donations, but we know that we can do much more with your help! One hundred percent of the amount collected in this campaign will be used to procure these basic supply kits, which will be sanitized and handled appropriately (gloves and masks). For security reasons, deliveries take place in locations close to the villages, but never in the cities or within the communities. Whenever possible, products are purchased in small towns where there are still no known cases of COVID-19. All transport and logistics are being financed by Kanindé and carried out by indigenous technicians who are taking all necessary precautions. In addition, we work in partnership with relevant authorities, including FUNAI and the Special Indigenous Sanitary Districts (DSEIs).
